With the global buzz around the Samsung Galaxy SIII at the moment, HTC has decided it wants a little bit of the headlines by launching the new Kickstand case accessory for the HTC One S. The new range of One smartphones are delightfully good looking and are packed with so much technology that even iPhone 4S owners have had to sit up and take note. However, HTC simply doesn’t have the same market share as Apple or Samsung but they are definitely giving it a try.
Although the Samsung Galaxy S3 is said to feature a similar case as the Kickstand, it’s the HTC that will have it first. The little ‘leg’ kicks out to hold the device up so that when you’re watching videos you can protect the case and have it at a nicer viewing angle. This is so simply yet it’s so clever at the same time. The case comes complete with the Kickstand installed and it’s made from aluminium so it’s strong enough to withstand any bending or slipping. It looks cool and is completely versatile. If you have a tablet PC then you’ll know that having to stoop over it while it’s lying flat on a table or your lap aches your neck but the little stand of the One S stops that.
With a faster processor, more RAM, more memory and better video card the One S looks set to draw the media-lovers to it. Thanks to the Kickstand case you can make the most of the viewing angle and even share it amongst friends. It’s little accents such as the kickstand that really make the progression of smartphones just that little bit more user-friendly. It’s almost as if HTC has received reports of it needing the kickstand and set to work on it straight-away. While it might have been missed in the design process the upgraded case is a welcomed one.
The hard-shell case is protective too so that it doesn’t get scratched on surfaced nor affects the camera lens. This is a problem if you’re a heavy user of your smartphone. The Kickstand can either be ordered with a normal ‘leg’ or a spring-loaded one. It is a little pricier at £30 compared to £18 for the normal case, but that spring helps steady the case and the phone better. The only slight downside is that although the rear of the case is protected from being scratched the leading edges are still and they aren’t as easily replaced as a back case. It’s though that the Kickstand will be available for the HTC One X and V versions and there are said to be more TPU cases in the pipeline for the firm’s flagship series.
This paves the way for 3rd party manufacturers of phone cases to design their own and pip HTC to the post. They will most likely be cheaper and as ever the battle for smartphone cases rages on. If you want to buy an HTC One X or a One S, compare the prices for UK retailers at Mobile Phone Checker.
