Google Takes on Safari as Chrome is Launched on iOS

Apple’s iOS operating system is set to have Google Chrome launched on it soon, which will directly pitch the search engine at Safari. The news comes as reports of the search engine being available from June onwards on iOS and that will make the browser cover yet more ground in the marketplace.

This is a shocking move and One that would see the App Store having to be opened up by Google Chrome, which owns the Android Market and Google Play, and it would let the Californian giants take hold of the search facility. At the moment, Apple gets 60% of the revenue share from Google that are made through Safari so it’s highly doubtful that Apple would give up that much of the market just to let iOS users have the option of Google Chrome.

If you look at another player in the browser maker, FireFox from Mozilla, which isn’t available for iPhone users as it Apple provides a framework that Mozilla cannot match. The framework does not allow custom rendering, which is what FireFox uses, and as such Google Chrome would have to be completely rewritten to fall into Apple’s framework too. As Safari and Chrome are so different, it seems that it would be highly unlikely that we will see Chrome on an iPhone this year unless the two companies can come to an agreement.

There are plenty of analysts and experts that think that Google will push their browser onto Apple as it’s missing a huge portion of the market. However, shrewd businesspeople that Google staff are, it seems they will have to do some major haggling to get the deal they want in what is effectively probing into another marketplace that Apple has wrapped up. Recent tests, called the Acid3 test, showed that both Safari on iOS and Android’s Chrome scored 100% so Google might have a good argument if Apple should deny the browser from being utilised on their iPads and iPhones.

It seems that we are way off hearing whether Google Chrome will be available on iOS but it would give a huge help to those that simply cannot get to grips with Safari, and it would mean you could integrate more of your Google products onto your iPhone rather than having to mess around with signing into your Google + accounts and separate accounts individually. This is the problem that many iPhone users have if they take advantage of Google never-ending product line.

However, can you believe that Apple is going to voluntarily draw the short straw by letting Google generate obscene amounts of revenue from iOS? It’s doubtful but to retain customers of Apple products they just might have to. With so many Android apps and features being available right now, people are swaying to those phones rather than buying Apple products as Google and its associated products aren’t available.
