Instagram Finally Included as an Android Camera App

The cult favourite camera app, Instagram, has finally found its way onto the Android Marketplace to be available for download. The camera app has been a hit on Apple’s iOS operating system for a while now bringing budding photographers out of the woodwork. The way that poor photographs can be instantly turned into stunning, professional images has taken the iPhone user by storm and only now is it available for Android.

Android users now amount to around 50% of the total market share of smartphone users in the US and amount to an equally impressive amount in the UK. This means that millions more smartphone users can play around with their photographs taken on their camera phones. It’s often regarded as the first app that many new smartphone users download and now the company will see a spike in new downloads as it’s available on another platform.

However, there are many amazing camera apps available on the Android Marketplace that shouldn’t be discounted. We take a look at the top camera apps available for Android users:

Photo Effects Pro – Complete with more than 40 photo effects to apply to your images that you take; the Photo Effects Pro app is available for £2.19 from Google’s app market place. It allows you to add thermal effects, lomo and fisheye; which is perfect for wide-angle shots that offers a stunningly distorted look to the pictures. You can add the layer effect instantly onto your images and lay other effects on top for a completely unique look. It’s a worthy alternative to Instagram, but the buzz is most certainly around the new app at the moment.

Vignette – This is One of the most regarded camera apps available right now, as it has a myriad of options that you can choose from. It actually increases the capabilities of your phone’s camera and has a range of filters to mix your images up into something incredible. In total, there are 56 frames and 68 effects, which range from lomo and vintage style shots. A worth replacement for Instagram but at £2.49 it’s a little pricier.

Pixlr-o-Matic – This is a free camera app that allows you to change your phone’s pictures in just three steps. There is a nice border around the image, you can change the lighting and add more filters. Although it features things that are seen on many other apps, it’s free and you have the bonus of adding the filters to existing images and not just the ones you are just about to take.

Retro Camera – No matter how many pixels your camera holds, there is something about the reto feel of a Polaroid image that is so appealing and this is what Retro Camera gives you. You can choose from five camera options which give you an array of retro and funky looking images. It’s also free and well-worth downloading.

As you can see, there are plenty of camera apps out there if Instagram doesn’t fulfil your needs so whether you have a Samsung Galaxy Nexus or a S2 then you can finally have more options when it comes to taking cool-looking photos.
