Nokia Investors Given Something to Look Forward To

Finally, after so many years of being pushed to the gutter by Apple and Samsung, Nokia have announced that they are focusing all of their attention on the smartphone, tablet and hybrid market to try and claw some of their success of the 1990s back. Once a market leader, the mobile phone maker – which was once a toilet paper and rubber boots distributor – lost its way after such an impressive late-90s result in the mobile phone market.

The chairman, Jorma Ollila, has come under fire from shareholders as he neglected to follow the smartphone trend as it was occurring and that has been the crux of the Finnish company’s downfall in recent years. He is due to step down from his post after 27 years but leaves on a note that will keep customers and shareholders happy as the firm are ploughing everything into the smartphone market.

A combination of new Nokia services and phones (as well as tablets and hybrids) will hit the market soon and as we’ve seen with the first in the turnaround drive, the Lumia series, the results should be very impressive. Since Nokias run on the Windows platform, which is a surprising firm that still hasn’t grasped a good portion of the market share, it needs Microsoft to succeed so they can too. With only three million handsets being sold and most of them being the Lumia range, it’s not all bad news as the top two companies have been dominating for so long. If Nokia can edge HTC out of third spot behind Apple and Samsung, then the future could well be brighter for Nokia.

However, shareholders aren’t holding their breath yet as the firm lost 90% of its value over the last five years. Ollila passes the buck to Risto Siilasmaa who will be looking to breathe new life into the company and settle the minds of the investors. After the last 13 years in charge, Ollila’s reign was voted as unacceptable and poor from many others. The change could not have come at a better time as the Nokia Lumia 800 is selling so well and the sales figures for the Lumia 900 are yet to be seen but the specifications of both smartphones are tremendous.

One thing that Nokia have always been well-known for is their usability and affordability. The Lumia series is no different and if you want to be a little different compared to your friends, family and peers then the Lumia 800 or 900 is perfect for the job. It’s jam-packed with technology and has a wealth of features that make other smartphones that are more expensive, look overpriced and under-specced. As you can see from the Mobile Phone Checker website we have all of the smartphones that are on sale today from the retailers and organise the prices and deals for you so you can find the best One for your budget. If you’re looking to buy new then make sure you’re getting the cheapest price.
