Nokia Lumia 900’s Instant Access

Although there are only two really competitive operating systems out there for smartphones, the iOS5 from Apple and Android, Windows Phone is set to challenge that with the new 7.1 operating system. Nokia, whose aim is to get back to the top spot after losing out to Samsung and Apple over the past few years, has launched the new Lumia range and the 900 is set to give it a really good chance at recouped some of the millions of dollars its lost recently.

The Windows Phone operating system on the Lumia 900 features Instant Access which is a personalised home-screen that features 9 tiles. You can chop and change the tiles to suit your needs and it means you can instantly access – hence the name – the tiles and apps you want and use most often without messing about in menu screens. Handily, the 4.3” screen is perfectly sized so you get perfect screen quality but the handset isn’t too bulky. The AMOLED touch display is very quick and easy to place and there is the ClearBlack technology that makes the screen very tough and looks incredibly clear.

The Nokia Lumia 900 has an 8MP camera and a 1MP front camera. Coupled with the screen and the powerful device, the images and videos are crystal clear and there is no lag or judder, and zero shutter delay. To top it all off there are Carl Zeiss optics, which really help your budding photography skills grow. For low-light situations there is a dual LED flash that lights up the area like daylight so you can finally have decent night-time pictures from your smartphone.

Just as you get with the Lumia 800 there is Wi-Fi and the Start screen has IE9 loaded onto it. There is also super-fast browsing as it supports HTML5 and Bing search is just a finger-flick away. You can integrate your POP, SMTP or IMAP email accounts so you can fetch your emails when you’re out and about. Being a Windows Phone there are options to use Word, Excel, PowerPoint and PDF files, which is an area where other smartphones struggle with.

For social use, there are many apps to download and Zune music is ideal if you’re a music lover. There is LinkedIn, Twitter and Facebook modules built-in and if you like you have those apps on your personalised home-screen. You can also connect to Xbox Live games so you can play your favourite games on the fly, and there is even an FM radio!

The GPS and A-GPS functionality is very good for finding your way around using Nokia or Bing Maps, and all of this technology is wrapped up in One of the coolest looking handsets available.
