Samsung Galaxy S8 Information

It can very much be argued that the Samsung Galaxy S8 is the best smartphone that has come out in 2017. Possibly the most beautiful phone in the market - technologically, it's breathtaking too.

It's sleek, sits beautifully in your palm and has 5.8 inches of colourful display that stretches from edge to edge - meaning you can comfortably navigate your handset with one hand.

Although the Galaxy S8 is almost the exact same height as the older S6, the curved sides make the S8 feel narrower and slimmer. As beautiful as it is on its own, it maybe worth buying a case for it as 83 per cent of it is glass, so very slippery and prone to cracking - however the back has Gorilla glass to resist damage.

The screen has a very high resolution, 2,960 x 1,440 pixel display, and makes text, images and video stand out, even when the sun is shining directly onto the screen.

A big change is that the physical home button and keys have completely gone. You now have an on-screen navigation and pressure sensitive home button built into the display itself.

The Samsung Galaxy S8 is completely dust and waterproof like its predecessor so has an IP68 rating, which means you could, if you were so inclined, leave the handset in water for up to 30 minutes.

A nice surprise is that there is a 3.5, headphone jack at the base of the handset. Samsung also includes a pretty decent pair of AKG earphones in the box, which are much better than the standard, un-branded types that come with other phones.

There are three colours to choose from in the UK (although five in other places in the world, so they may become available in the future) - Midnight Black, Orchid Grey, Arctic Silver.

The handset has a Super AMOLED display, which means the colours are bright and vivid, even in direct sunlight. The Galaxy S8 screen resolution is WQHD+, 2960x1440 because the screen is so tall.

There are lots of new features that make the screen easier to use one-handed and the display is always on should you want it to be.

Samsung's latest octa-core processor has speeds of 2.3- and 1.7GHz and a Mali-G71 MP20 GPU. Samsung says that it is a 10 percent increase in CPU performance and a 20 percent gain on the GPU side.

The Galaxy S8 has 4GB of RAM and comes with 64GB of storage as standard. However, the phone has expandable storage so you can add up to 256GB via the Micro-SD card slot if you wanted more room for apps, pictures and videos etc.

Unsurprisingly for such a technologically advanced phone, S8 comes with all of the latest connectivity specs - including dual-band 11ac WI-Fi, NFC, GPS, Bluetooth 5.0 and LTE Cat 16.

The camera on the S8 is outstanding. It's able to perform 'multi-frame image processing' where it takes three shots instead of one, and uses the extra pictures to do things like reduce blur and perfect other elements such as focus.

The Galaxy S8 has a 12Mp Dual Pixel with an impressive f/1/7 aperture and other features like optical image stabilisation (OIS) and 4K recording.

Under the bonnet, the phone comes with the latest version of Android - 7.0 Nougat. However, because Samsung has painted over it, you may not realise it though. The interface remains clean and easy to use but still has lots going on behind the scenes.

A big change, which wasn't ready when the phone was first launched, was Samsung's answer to Siri is Bixby. As well as voice command, you can access Bixy with a side button, so you can get to the feature quickly without having to unlock the device.

In regards to security, there are six ways to unlock the S8 - Fingerprint, Face recognition, Iris Scanner, Pattern, PIN and Smart Lock.

The battery on the Galaxy S8 is pretty decent, and can take 24 hours of heavy use without dying. It also comes with a fast charger function, which charges the phone from 0% to 37% in 30 mins - which is pretty impressive.
